ELIMINATING IGNORANCE
After speaking with 16 year old, Ella, who has a cochlear implant and who struggled with being left out at school, I came to the realisation that the general public really lack knowledge of the deaf and hard of hearing community.
Exclusion was one of the main issues that frequently came up - this would likely occur much less frequently if the general public knew a few key things, as well as just taking the time to learn the sign language alphabet.
To find out more about the deaf and hard of hearing community, I also spoke to Debbie Weir, a learning support teacher for the hearing impaired, and Catherine Boucher, a senior Audiologist.
The resulting campaign includes text that transforms into the shape of an ear, with a blurred background that visually refers to the muffled sounds that you hear when you have a hearing impairment.
This campaign had an interaction of over 35,000 and a reach of over 50,000 people.
